The highest rates of sexually transmitted diseases are those for African Americans.
HIV/AIDS affects African Americans more than any other racial/ethnic groups and the CDC's 2005 surveillance information shows an increase in heterosexual transmissions while the primary source of transmission continues to be MSM contact (men having sex with men).
Men United For HIV/AIDS Awareness aims at providing information on means of transmission of HIV/AIDS, its prevention, control, and impact on our society, families, and overall well-being.
The rate of AIDS diagnoses for African American adults and adolescents is 10 x the rate for whites and approximately 3 x the rate for Hispanics. The rate of AIDS diagnoses for African American women is almost 24 x the rate for white women. The rate of AIDS
diagnoses for African American men is approximatley 8 x the rate for white men.
Men United for HIV/AIDS Awareness (MUFHA) is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit tax exempt organization founded by Akil Campbell; MUFHA started as a project during the pursuit of his Master’s in Public Health where his focus was Health Promotion and Disease Prevention.
Minority groups are most affected by HIV/AIDS and it has been found that men play a vital role in the reduction of the spread of HIV/AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases and infections but occupy generally passive prevention roles.
MUFHA’s mission is to provide needed services to men, their families and friends infected or affected by HIV/AIDS; to provide scholarships to men in pursuit of Public Health and Health Education training, and support to groups affected by this pandemic.
We will work to help make a difference in the lives of people affected by and infected with HIV/AIDS and othter STDs/STIs. Each and every person has reason to hope because great advances are being made!
